Virtual machine dependence on Virtual box version ?

I know that sometimes my VMWare grades and asks if I want to upgrade my VMs. I do. I doubt the new updated VM will work on older versions of the VM Workstation.

Yes and no... If you're trying to go from a newer version to an older version, uninstall the VM addons in the virtual machine first, transfer the virtual hard disk, and install the VM addons in the older version.
