Machine: A machine that produces a product. (NOT a power plant)
Function: When this button is pressed, the machine should discontinue the production that it is doing, and all motion should stop.

Yes, we would call this a Normal Stop.

Not, by the way, any of these names: Functional Stop, Zone Stop, Batch Stop, etc.

Just plain old stop.

WHAT COLOR SHOULD IT BE?

WHAT COLOR CAN IT BE?

WHAT COLOR SHOULD IT NEVER BE?

It "should" be red and it must not look anything like an E-Stop and must never be green or blue.

I have worked on machines with:
Stop
Power Off
Cycle Stop (at end of cycle)
Top Stop (Cycle Stop for a stamping press)
Cycle Interrupt (immediate)
and more

The one thing they all had in common was Red Pushbutton operators, never a mushroom top, never a yellow background, never latching - just RED.

According to NFPA 79, which is the electrical standard for industrial machinery:
“The preferred color for stop or off shall be RED, except that BLACK, WHITE, or GRAY shall be permitted. GREEN shall not be used for stop or off.”
