I am looking at analysing a sting using an FB in SCL.

I have looked at these

https://cache.industry.siemens.com/...176/v1/s7_scl_string_parameterzuweisung_e.pdf
https://support.industry.siemens.co...-different-data-type-in-s7-scl?dti=0&lc=en-WW
http://plc4good.org.ua/files/03_downloads/SCL_table/SCL-cheat-sheet.pdf

but I am falling at the first hurdle. When I try and input things like VAR and LEN TIA portal is coming up that "Tag VAR not defined". According to what the guides I am using VAR is an instruction.

I cannot see what i'm doing wrong?!

I have an S7-314.

Thanks

In Portal, SCL has you declare variables like you would in any other language, in the interface at the top. You don't type out all the var/end_var stuff, you do it up top.
