I have a retrofit project, and need a signal conditioner
for one of the old-style variable reluctance/inductance
sensors that were used (by Reliance, I know) and others
to sense linear displacement.

For those who don't know, these were two wire devices,
and, schematically, they look like 1/2 of a transformer.

Are you talking about those moveable slug reactors? I haven't seen one of those in at least ten years. Lots of problems filtering their outputs. Why not redesign the input to use something more modern and an off-the-shelf conditioner? Something like a linear proximity detector and a cam should work.

actually, yes

Yes, you could call this a movable slug reactor.
They were widely used in the old days. Today, of course,
I'd prefer a string sensor (Celesco), or something
ultrasonic.
