For those with experience with DASSIDirect, DASS7, and S7PLC-400's:
Hi, I'm new in dealing with Siemens hardware. My coworker has already configured the S7PLC-400 network's configuration using step 7. I also have step 7 v5.5 installed on my laptop and able to view the network properties of the PLC. With that being said,
I'm trying to connect to a PLC7-400 using either DASSIDirect and/or DASS7, whichever is quicker and easier to setup. I'm using a laptop with an ethernet device wired to a Siemens CP443-1 Advanced. The Siemens CP is on Slot 5 and the processor is on Slot 3, all on Rack 0. I am able to ping the S7PLC by going to CMD and typing ping <address of the plc> so I know I can see the PLC on the network.
In the SMC, for DASSIDirect I set the configurations under S7Cp as the following:
Network Address: <the address of the CP card>
LOCAL TSAP
Defaults 1.0
The DASSIDirect has been activated, and I keep getting the following in the Log Viewer:
DASPROTFAIL DASSIDIRECT Connection Aborted
REMOTE TSAP
Remote Rack: 0
Remote Slot: 3
Connection Resource: 5
Also, I've installed DASS7, I put "CP 443-1 Advanced" under the CP node type , but i don't know what to put for VFD, and I don't know what to put for "Connection" under the node type CON. Currently I have this server deactivated. Also, after reading the help file, I have some questions about using DASS7. Is it possible to use DASS7 by just using the ethernet device on my laptop to connect with the CP443-1 on the PLC? In other words, do i need a CP card for my laptop/desktop in order to use DASS7? If not, is having S7 installed enough for DASS7, or do i need to install additional siemens software before setting up DASS7.

I appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you.
