Our PLC guy at work is MIA, so that is my job now :). We have a newer laptop, so I will be buying a 1747-UIC. So assuming I have that and can connect to DH-485:

1. An SLC 5/03 PLC, a Panelview 300 2711-K3A5L1 (DH485 over RS-232) and 2 1761-NET-AIC connected together via their RS-485 ports. A 2711-NC13 goes from the PV to one of the AICs. How do I connect the rest of this up? My guess is a 1761-CBL-PM02 from the 8-pin DIN of one AIC to the RS-232 of the SLC and I plug the 1747-UIC into the DH-485 port on the SLC with a 1747-C13? Would this allow me to program both at the same time?

2. A Micrologix 1500 LSP is connected to a 1761-NET-AIC with a 1761-CBL-AM00 cord and a Panelview 300 2711-K3A5L1 is connected to the AIC with a 2711-NC13. How do I get the laptop in the mix without pulling cords out? Do I have to get another AIC, or is there some way to connect to the RS-485 port on the AIC?

Any help would be appreciated,
Dave

Thank you very much. That answers #2, but I'm still not sure about hooking up the scenario in #1. It seems that there are several ways to wire to an SLC that would work?

As the link points out just substitute the ML with your SLC. anf the proper cable.

It seems that there are several ways to wire to an SLC that would work?

Yes there is, more later I have to go get the grandson. Or someone else will jump in and help.

Let me re-state System 1:

SLC 5/03 Controller
Panelview 300 2711-K3A5L1 (DH485 over RS-232) connected to one of the AIC+ modules using a serial cable (2711-NC13)
Two 1761-NET-AIC connected together via their RS-485 (Trunk) ports.

To connect the SLC-5/03 and a PC (via the 1747-UIC) you need to use the three remaining serial ports on the AIC+ modules.

The SLC-5/03 Channel 0 serial port can connect using a DB9F/DB9F cable, or a DIN8M/DB9F cable. The common A-B part numbers are the 1747-CP3 and the 1761-CBL-PM02 cbale.

The 1747-UIC can use either of those cables to connect to the 1761-NET-AIC modules as well.

Be aware, though, that the SLC-5/03 Channel 1 (DH485 Network) and Channel 0 (RS232 multipurpose) ports are independent. You can configure them both for DH485 protocol but they will be separate node numbers and there is no "bridge" between them. You could not connect to Channel 1 and then communicate with devices that are only connected to Channel 0.

There are a handful of other ways to connect all those devices is Network 1 together... it would make a good Puzzler on Car Talk.

Thank you Ken, it is clearer now. To be sure, if I connect the AIC+ to the SLC 5/03 channel 0 via DB9F/DB9F, and the 1747-UIC with the AIC+ with DIN8M/DB9F, then they can all talk to each other as they are only connected with one channel on the SLC?
