Carriage return & string data types

Can anyone tell me how to enter a carriage return in a variable string datatype. I have declared a string in a datablock and set its initial value to 'M#5' but i need to put a carriage on the end. Surely this can be done please help.

Sorry forgot to say I am using s7-300 siemens PLC and Step 7

$R or $r is the special character for carriage return. ($L is linefeed)
