OPC SIMATIC.NET sync or async

Hi,
i am trying to connect to s7300, but there are two methods 1 is async and the other is sync. what is the difference ? for a continous data readin operation which one can i use? (i need to read data and write it to sql) do you guys have any .net sample project which you can share ? thanks
