I have been modifying a good amount of code lately that was written by different programmers back in the early to mid 1990’s. It was originally done in A.I. Series software. The way they programmed everything was to copy inputs (local or RIO) into N (integer) files and then use the integer file bits in the ladder code. The outputs are done the same way except in reverse (copy of integer files to outputs). My question is: was there an actual reason to do this back in the heyday of PLC 5 era with the A.I. Series interface software, or was it something these programmers were taught and/or did on their own for their own reasons. The code is quite cumbersome to navigate, and of course there was no place to make titles, comments, descriptions, etc. (sarcasm). These programs were eventually converted to RSLogix 5 of which I am using now. Thanks in advance for any feedback or comments.
