Red Lion G306k000

Have a Red Lion G306k000 screen which displays the MAC address, how can I determine an IP address to which I can download some code from Crimson 3.

It has been reset hence the display

" INVALID DATABASE.

IP address not configured and TCP/IP is disabled.

MAC Address is 00-0C-26-02-47-40."

Have tried via RS232 but no joy as yet.

The G306K was discontinued some time ago and replaced by the G307K2.

I'm not certain but I think the only way to enable the Ethernet port is to first download a program through the RS232 port. Your initial program should configure the Ethernet settings and enable remote download, and at that point you can use Ethernet for programming.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the Crimson build on your PC must match the firmware in the unit. If it doesn't, then when you go to download your program it will first update the firmware. Over RS232 this is no problem but over Ethernet you must have a CompactFlash card installed for this to work. (Another reason to have serial programming capability.) I don't believe you can use a normal null modem cable to connect to the programming port, so you have to either buy Red Lion's cable or make your own. And unless your PC is ancient and has built-in serial ports, you'll also need a USB-to-serial converter.

OK Thanks I will investigate the cable route, it is a rather old piece of kit and I inherited the project from a client who told me an "electrician" had tried to make some changes to the plant but succeeded in wiping the database and the PLC code as well..Doh!
I always end up with these type of problems.
