1747-UIC used as a RS-485 adapter

can a 1747-UIC adapter be used as a RS-485 adapter to connect to a ACTECH Drive. As shown below.

MAY WOR I've used the USB adaptor before on non AB products whether it works with this setup I cannot say for sure but it looks to be half duplex so you shouldn't run into handshaking problems
 
I haven't used it but I thought that the 1747-UIC was a protocol adapter (DF1 -> DH485) as well as an electrical adapter (USB -> RS485 and RS232). The protocol adapting may get in the way.
