Hey all,

I'm having a brain wave and am excited by my own thoughts... I'll run it by you guys before I shall out the $300.

I propose to buy a serial to ethernet converter (Moxa DE-311), buy a cheap wireless router, then cruise around the machine with my wireless laptop.

Any problems or further suggestions???

As an example how would you configure your RSlinx driver for this.

Not sure if you are asking for your self or assuming the OP is using AB.

In RSLinx you can Configure Drivers under the Communication drop down menu, then set up a new driver, by selectting Ethernet Devices or Ethernet/IP Driver as the basis for a new driver. (One of them you have to assign valid IP addresses, can't remember which)

Then go to topic configuration, create a new topic and search the ethernet tree for the PLC you want.

Remember of course, you must set up your laptop IP address as a spare address in the same range as the PLC you want to connect to.
