You could start with the AB Micrologix 1000 Users manual here:

You should read chapter 4 a few times. That should give you a general understanding of the addressing.

If you can find a copy of the old AB MicroMentor book that would be ideal. Your AB rep may be able to get you one. They used to give them away for free.
