Factory Talk View Machine Edition

I want to be able to design and program PanelView Plus terminals. So, I go to AB's website find, Factory Talk View, click on "ordering info" so that I can figure out what catalog number I need. But, I'm confused.

I see a list of programs that are listed as "runtime" softwares, made for 15,30,75, or 250 displays. Can someone explain what these are for? And below that I see a listing that says "FactoryTalk View Studio for Machine Edition" catalog number "9701-VWSTMENE". I'm assuming this is what I need. Am I correct??

You are correct, Studio is what you are after.

Studio ME allows you to create runtime ME applications. You also need a "box" that can make use of that runtime app. The PanelView Plus is such a box and it has a Station runtime license built into it that can actually run the app. So no other license is required.

But what if you wanted to run your ME app from a standard Windows PC?

You develop your app on your PC using Studio. Then when you are done, you transfer that app to your "runtime" PC. Only problem is that computer has no way to run the app you created. So, for that scenario you purchase a Station runtime license based on the number of displays in your app. You then install the Station software and this gives your runtime PC the ability to run your application.
