Hello people

I have just got a new job where i will be required to write and modify programs for siemens step 7 range of plcs. does anybody know of any good sites that will help me get to grips with the programmeing protocols and language.

any help would be much appreciated

cheers

If you are completely new to S7, then I recommend that you get a starter course at Siemens. This will help you to get into the S7 "lingo". To do it all by yourself is possible, but will be much more uphill than you would expect if you are experienced with other PLCs.

Siemens has a number of "getting started" manuals, also available thru download. They are generally pretty good.

Once you are making some progress, I recommend the books Automating with STEP7 in STL and SCL and Automating with STEP7 in LAD and FBD by Hans Berger.

Here's a link to The Siemens Support Web Site , have a look through here and download the manuals for the PLC's you will be working with.

You could also pop down to your local WHSmith's and buy one of the books written by Hans Berger.

Don't forget that you could always post your questions here, there are quite a few regulars to this site who work with Step7.

Paul,

it just goes to show how good this site is.

Siemens own forum has only approx 20% the number of threads in the S7 section as this forum does.
Approx 40% of the threads in Siemens forum are never answered.
And very strange: Siemens own support will often try to help, but when they do they often ask the original thread starter to call the support line, rather than sharing the goods with everybody on the forum.
