Can anyone tell me if there is a starter package for siemens pcs-7 with wincc etc? and a round-about price?

I use PCS7 but it is most about continiously adaption, rebuilding and optimation of bigger systems. I have never heard about starter packages. You should have a talk with your dealer about it, and also about the pricing.

I currently use AB. software.
we have PCS7 and I have been around it some. (Mainly just troubleshooting our profibus instruments etc).
I would like to work at home to just learn the system,it seems a lot easier to do the "control" portion than the ladder logic I'm used too.

Just wanted to know if they might have a "cheap starter" like AB.

Can anyone advise how easy it is to get an existing PCS-7 system to interface with an S7-315 on Profibus?

We have a machine which we would like to sell a repeat of, the customer wants it integrated in their PCS-7. I thought rather than put a new bit of hardware in and program from scratch, we could re-use our existing code and just have some signal handshake between the PCS-7 and our 315.

If you just want a few signals f.x. that the machine is running, has error, is shut off, prod.counters, start, reset, ...,you should keep the program as it is and exchange data to the PCS7 via DP/DP coupler ( you didn't tell but I recon both the 300 and the 400 are DP masters).

When / If you (have) read the pdf, we could eventually discuss more afterwards.

Thanks for the reply I read the article. Two immediate concerns 1) The program is already written, the PDF seems to be for new projects. 2) I have written it in TIA V11 and the instructions appear to be for Step 7 V 5.4.

I do just want to do a simple transfer of a few signals. Couldnt it be done using Get/Put?

Yes, but no, no, no! You mentioned Profibus earlier. If this means that both the PCS7 controller and the 315 are DP masters, you should absolutely avoid connecting the busses directly. Use a DP/DP coupler and exchange your data as 'normal' IO.

...or you could add an ethernet card to the 300 and let the PCS7 OS Server poll the data directly. Probably the easiest way for you, no extra code needed.
