programming cable

i have pc adapter v5.1 (6ES7-972-0CA23-0XA0) ,i use it with s7-300 without any problems. the question is can i use it with S7-200 cpu(cpu224)

I hav'nt used that particular cable, but I believe it will work fine.
I use the 6ES7-972-0CB20-0XA0 which to my understanding is the same cable as yours but for USB/RS485 instead of RS232/RS485.

I use this cable regularly with S7-300 + S7-200 without any issues.

The S7-200 systems uses PPT-communication. I'm quite sure that you'll need a special Serial(or USB) to PPT adapter for this.

I have used the RS232 type PC-Adaptor with both S7-200 and S2-300 PLCs in the past. I'm sorry I can't say which versions they of the adaptor they were.

I think there's some issue that the old type RS232 PC Adaptor doesn't work with anything newer than XP. You would need a USB type PC-Adaptor in this case. At least this is my experience.
