Ya, I know. My search ability (google-fu) is lacking today.

While downloading a bunch of updates from RA today I started to wonder about going to the "Studio" environment which I read from some threads that some of the basic functionality change makes things quite different. Currently, the most up to date version we have is version 20. My main concern is to be able to support the older versions I still have running out there, going back to version 16 or older on the same laptop. I also heard about how the new RSLinx that works with studio handles EDS differently so that's a concern as well.

Any words of wisdom? Or maybe someone can point me to another thread where this has already been answered. Thanks,

Of the older versions I keep only version 16 and 20 installed. Version 16 because that was where the L55s stopped, and V20 because that was where the L6x and older CompactLogix stopped. Everything is kept updated as far forward as it can go, so I only need to install the three versions.

A year ago I actually had everything at V20, till we did a project on the cheap this summer and recycled an old L55.

I have both Studio 5000 (V21) and RSLogix5000 V20 installed on the same VMware image running Windows 7 Pro and don't have any issues.

I haven't been on Studio 5000 for long and I had to back track to V20 on a project because to my surprise the FactoryTalk Alarms were not supported in V21. Apparently they are back in the new version but I haven't installed it yet.
