24V dc FLEX I/O 8 Input Analog Module (1794-IE8/B)

New at this so here it goes,
Could anybody give me a basic overview of what this type of FLEX I/O does, its an '8 input analog module (1794-IE8/B). Also where it is used and what it is used for.

It IS an 8 channel, non-isolated analog input module.
Each channel can be configured for 0-10V/0-20mA, 4-20mA, or -10 to +10VDC inputs.
It is used whenever up to 8 analog values need to be read into a compatable PLC.
