My next question would be "what have you/they tried" ? Maybe they could send you (or join this thread) some screenshots of their configurations. If the ABB operator panel can't seem to write to the SLC-5/05, maybe it is displaying an error message of some kind that they could describe.
If I were troubleshooting this issue, I'd be installing a port-mirroring switch and capturing on Ethernet the operator interface's attempts to write to the SLC-5/05 and comparing them to a PanelView or PanelView Plus's attempts to do the same thing.
Rhetorically, where should the threshold be between fiddling around and getting somebody onsite who knows what they are doing ? There are ace Allen-Bradley engineers in Golden, CO that they could have hired already to get this communication link going.
