AB SLC5/05 TO ABB PLC ethernet communications

My next question would be "what have you/they tried" ? Maybe they could send you (or join this thread) some screenshots of their configurations. If the ABB operator panel can't seem to write to the SLC-5/05, maybe it is displaying an error message of some kind that they could describe.

If I were troubleshooting this issue, I'd be installing a port-mirroring switch and capturing on Ethernet the operator interface's attempts to write to the SLC-5/05 and comparing them to a PanelView or PanelView Plus's attempts to do the same thing.

Rhetorically, where should the threshold be between fiddling around and getting somebody onsite who knows what they are doing ? There are ace Allen-Bradley engineers in Golden, CO that they could have hired already to get this communication link going.

Ken - I agree with you - and I am done fiddling, as it is ABB's responsibility to get the comms working per their contract. I was merely trying to help them. I have left the ball in their court now.
From what I heard today, they are on the verge of giving up and going to hard-wired connections!

If they (ABB) had tried to write to an address that the PLC was also writing to then the PLC would overwrite whatever ABB tried to do. Are you certain that the the address's ABB wrote to are not used ANYWHERE else in the PLC ?

I am sure they are not writing to any registers that the PLC program is changing.
