about mpi and profibus

MPI = Multi Point Interface
Profibus = Professional Field Bus

Both are based on the RS485 electrical standard.

MPI is used for programming the PLCs and, in a more limited way, communication between PLCs. The speed is normally limited to 187,5kbaud.

Profibus: is used for communication. Depending on the version, (DP, FMS or PA) the type, frequency and length of the messages differ. The speed goes up to 12Mbaud.

All this info is to be found in the various links in the search Mickey proposed, but you would need to put some effort in to get this result.

can anyone explain in simple???
No. Unfortunately this is Siemens stuff. Simple explanations of Siemens stuff are about as hard to find as the explanation why the big bang occurred. They use to do their stuff in their own mysterious ways.

I always thought PROFIBUS = PROcess FIeld BUS ?
Could be. But my contact at Siemens Belgium called it professional field bus. Maybe he was wrong ;). But then salespersons use whatever they can to get their stuff sold, even wrong information.

Kind regards,
