This laptop was used by the company to program these plc's and all of the plcs are connected by ethernet and rsview scada.

Mickey... the above is the reason for my comments about the Ethernet

Goody, If you have the ML1500 LRP as stated in your first post , then try the other port. The one on the side. You will need a 9 pin to 9pin null modem cable
Thanks, Mickey, I got this post mixed up with another one in which the ML was cnonected to a NET-ENI...
Sorry bout that Goody!

thank you guys - I'm afraid it will have to wait while tomorrow now, its late here in UK and boy is my head throbbing :) :)

Time for a beer and forget all about plc's.

One day i'll be an AB man too :)

I think we need to take Goody's advice and go have a beer.

ah the morning brings a clear mind and renewed determination.

But I didnt need any because I open the front of the plc - pressed the comms reset button and the green dcomm light came on.

Suddenly trying to connect did not result in a furrowed brow and muttered oaths - it said configured and woah - I'm online!

Although this plc was still in the box with all the sticky paper still attatched - it had been programmed ready for a swap somewhere on the network. It isnt now though - its my plaything for a while :)

Once again thank you all for your help. Without it I would surely have failed and given up.

Every plc brand has their quirks and weird ways of configuring them - thats why forums like this do good business :)

I am sure glad it and you lot are exists :) :)

You appear to take your beer drinking in moderation, I wonder if the other 3 that you convinced to have a beer, also do it in moderation,

Yes, and I think your coming from the Mitsubishi world where all you have to do is select the proper CPU and guess the baud rate. I would say configuring the communications of a serial connection is the toughest hurdle with the AB PLC. While it's bad that it is the first thing a newcomer must do...but at least you get it out of the way early. Should be pretty smooth sailing from here.
