Connecting a new Panelview Plus to a SLC 5/04

What some ways to connect an Ethernet only PanelView Plus to a SLC 5/04 without upgrading it to a SLC 5/05?

Hmm, the 5/04 has a RS232 port that can be configured for DF1 or DH485. You might be able to use a 1761-NET-ENI on that port. Not sure what a 5/05 costs these days, but you might not be that far off from the cost of one.

The other ports on it are DH+, it will likely be a lot more expensive to convert DH+ to Ethernet than the 5/05 costs. The most common way is a ControLogix Gateway, which consists of a 4 slot CLX rack, power supply, ethernet module and DHRIO module. You'd be into a few grand for that solution.

Using the USB to serial port option is interesting. I was unaware of that option.

But, in a lot of cases, the serial port is taken for use with a drive or other device. I was thinking about a DH+ option.

The price for a new SLC 5/05 right now is over $12,000 USD.


I have seen some adapters available. But, was hoping someone with some experience with one of them would chime in.

There are 2 that I recently discovered. But, have not used yet. Prosoft AN-X2-AB-DHRIO and the Automation Networks anc-100e

This is great news, more cost effective for upgrading from PV550 to PV+7 on an Slc5/04. We had been using Prosoft An-X2 units for this, but they were expensive.

You definitely couldn’t use a USB lead until recently as I enquired with RA.

Looking forward to having a go with a serial connection now

I find that gateway device interesting.
A problem we have with existing legacy PLCs and OPC applications, is that some of the data is sent from the PLC by unsolicited messages to the OPC server.
Does this device support that ?
I checked the manual, and there is an address mapping feature so you can setup for data that is to be sent from an HMI to a PLC, that you can specify that the data sent to a specific IP address is forwarded to a specific DH+ address.
Does it work the other way, from PLC to HMI/OPC as well ?
