FactoryTalk View Point speed

I have a workstation running a FactoryTalk SE Local Station HMI app. I am running an SE client on the same workstation.


I will use FactoryTalk Viewpoint to provide access to the HMI app


I have two options for network connection to the workstation:
1. ADSL circuit with 2.3 Mbps down and 4.6 Mbps up at 20k dollars


2. Fiber circuit at 95k dollars.




My question is: is the ADSL speed adequate for Viewpoint application? Rockwell techConnect says there isn't a mention of bandwidth requirement. Anyone here with similar setup above?

You could simulate the speed with some sort of bandwidth restriction. cut it down to 1.8Mbps down, 3.5Mbps up and see how it does. You rarely get max speed. Use a router between your end points. How remote is the HMI from what its controlling? with that speed aDSL its gotta be pretty remote.

The HMI app, SE client, is on the same workstation that is connected to the PLC.


I am using another workstation remotely, through ViewPoint, to access the HMI

if tis just the web view your looking at, zero control besides viewing other screens on the webserver side.. probably work just fine.

WHat i was asking is how remote, is it in the middle of SantaFe NM, and your in the Great Basin National park? Speed is based on distance from the providers dSLAMs.

25K for a fiber install to a remote location, they have to install all sorts of crud along the way, permits many, money more.
