Hi There.
This topic came up recently at our place. One thing that can be helpful is this site that shows the hexadecimal representation for Floating Point or REAL numbers:

Every PLC I Have come up against so far uses this IEEE-754 format for Floats or REALs.
I also made a CoDeSys simulation that tries to demonstrate what happens when you interpret the REAL value in the wrong way. Here is a video of me going through the simulation:
