I have a simple machine with an Allen Bradley Kinetix servo motor model TLY-A230T-HJ62AN. It's being run by a Compact Logix PLC. The purpose is to rotate a vertically positioned ball screw used to raise and lower a test device at speeds and distances input through an HMI. The total travel is about 40 inches and the top speed is 10 inches a min.
My problem is that occasionally, it will start making a loud buzzing/popping noise from inside the servo, but only while traveling in the downward direction. However, if it starts making the noise. the noise will continue throughout a programmed pause. During the pause the motor shaft will be twitching back and forth. If, during a pause with buzzing, you grab the shaft by hand and attempt to rotate it, it seems like the motor finds the correct position and the buzzing/twitching stops. I want to try an Auto Tune, but when I'm in Run mode, the Auto Tune start is grayed out, if I'm in Program mode I get an error that the drive isn't ready.
Any advice on how to start the Auto tune or if I should try something else first?
