I've never had a "base model" to work on, so I'm just not sure.
RA Knowledgebase article ID #26732, ActiveX Summary List, suggests that the PanelView Plus CE model is required to run ActiveX controls because it give you "access to the operating system".
I'm not so sure. You don't need desktop access to run an ActiveX. I'm not sure if they are preinstalled on the "extended features" terminals or if they are installed along with the *.MER file.
You won't have FTP Server support on the older 2711P-RP1 logic module, but you will have removable USB media support, so there's still a way to get the files off the terminal using a batch file.
Give RA Tech Support a call, and test out the DataStore Plus ActiveX control. You may need to carefully select the one that's meant for the PV+5.10, as there are a new set of ActiveX controls for the PV+6.
