Looking for suitable RS-232 to RS-485 adapter

I have a bunch (20+) of Yaskawa GS5 inverters and would like to connect them to our modbus network. Unfortunately, they only have native RS-232 capability. $200 each for CM-085 adapters is a bit prohibitive.

Most of the "cheap" adapters i can find on E-bay have 9-pin serial connectors and i need something I can hardwire. I did find a Kantech VC-485 which should work. Does anyone have experience with the Kantech device?

One thing we do sometimes is buy a DB9 serial cable and cut it in half for the hardwired end. If all your DB9's are Female, you can order Male/Male cables and get 2 pre-wired connectors from each. The wires are sometimes very small gauge so I wouldn't try a long run or something that moves but for a short stationary hop, not a bad way to go.

I haven't tried these with your specific application, but I have used them with numerous gizmos in the past, part way down the page is one that can be hard wired on one end.

They are designed for panel use and do not require a domestic type plug in power supply.
