Operating System - Windows 7 or 8

I think I will stick to VMware because I have had great success with it and already have a licence to transfer when a new PC is due

I was pretty excited about the possibilities until I saw that the only guest OSes supporting enhanced sessions were Server 2012 R2 and Win8.1 Go figure.

The guest OSes are not limited to the ones you listed. I have done, WinXP, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 in Hyper-V.

No problem. I'll repeat myself-- because I sometimes just say good stuff...

...the only guest OSes supporting enhanced sessions were Server 2012 R2 and Win8.1-- [emphasis added]

The issue is not whether you can install an OS on it or not. The issue is the lack of USB support for OSes that are not 'enhcanced-session-ready'. IMO, That's a serious enough flag against it if you need a USB device that isn't on a named COM pipe.

I want to use rockwell software but cannot use on win8. It is plain win8 not win 8 pro so I cnnot downgrade as well. Any suggesion? I am afraid, I may have to pay for VMware and additional win7 licence... :(
