SIMATIC S7- 400H High-availability CPUs

Hi,

I'm involved with a project using Siemens S7 400 CPUs. Both CPUs are redundant (CPU1: StandBy, CPU2: Master) , i would like to download a new logic program. Could you please confirm to me the following way to proceed:

1. put in stop the stand by cpu (CPU1)
2. download
3. put it in Run
4. put in stop the Master Cpu (CPU2) ==> (CPU1 became the Master)
5. download
6. put it in Run (CPU2 became the StandBy)

Hi,

You don't need to do it manually. Step 7 or PCS 7 which you are using to configure and download will be taken care of this procedure. Just follow the instruction "pop-up".

Normally downloading logic should be able to do it CPU in Run and later they will sync or crossload it.

Thank you moez for your quick reply. However, i would like to download the new logic inside the memory card. i was requested to put in stop both CPUs then connecting to each CPU and download the new logic. Really i dont want to stop both CPUs. referring to your answer, i can download only in the Master CPU. right?

Hi Yass,

Here's what i did recently and it worked fine...

1. Power down system (Both CPUs)
2. Fit FLASH card to CPU 0
3. Wait until initialisation complete (STOP LED solid) (could be 10-15 mins sometimes!)
4. Highlight BLOCKS folder (left hand tree)
5. PLC > Download User Program To Memory Card. Wait until complete.
6. Power Down
7. Remove Memory Card from CPU 0 and fit to CPU 1
8. Fit second memory card to CPU 0
9. As Step 3

Thank you Rob for your answer but i m really trying to avoid stopping both CPUs. I don't like to stop the running unit. knowing that i have the new program in my PC and i want to download it in both CPUs inside the memory cards.

Hi Yass,

Do you have access to a field PG or suitable card reader? Then you could use that to prepare the 2 x memory cards with the current working application instead.
