My input card needs a -24vdc input. I need to add a bypass selector switch. I took -24vdc to switch then out to plc input. I got no signal. To jerry rig it, I came off of my selector switch with -24vdc to the common terminal of a relay and under the same terminal to the plc input. I then took +24vdc to coil of relay. This works but looks like **** and I dont need the relay. A little enlightenment would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Please state the exact part number of the input card. Make sure you have the wiring diagram for that particular card.

In general a sourcing input card will have the plus side of your 24VDC power supply attached to a common point. The low side of the 24VDC power supply is sent to your switch then back to the input.
