I will check tomorrow at the office, I think we have one S5 never used.

You're wasting your money buying S5 spares....better spent upgrading the hardware to S7.

After the first machine is upgraded the old PLC should provide spares for the remaining ones.

Just my $0.02

spare

Hello,

thanks for the answwers. It is not possible to buy via ebay. And it is not planned to upgrade s5 -> s7. australia is far away and the shipping to expensive. at unisgroup i have looked in the onsline store and it is very expensive.

S5=VERY EXPENSIVE

It is far better to invest in new equipment, which doesn't has to be Siemens, and even upgrade process, then to wait until your production will stop due to faulty equipment and lack of spare parts.

No upgrade!!

hello,

no upgrade to S7!

the contract to produce this part is only 5 years. and for a few of the plcs we have only plc-code without comments.

regards

You've been given the plausible answers...Either upgrade or spend alot of $. There is no solution of little $ and not upgrade that you seek.

Not sure why you can't buy from eBay? Anyway, maintaining S5 systems is an expensive business. Competent S5 programmers are getting thin on the ground and some spares are almost unobtainable.

Upgrading a machine to S7 may turn out to be cheaper that having a machine down for weeks.

Oioioi! That is a good horseload with cards. Are really all those defective?

Kalle

EDIT 1: Information:
A 948 can replace a 946/947 combination. The HTB-FBs have different numbers (SEND, RECEIVE, SYNCHRON, CONTROL..). The 948 has got the memory card slot built-in.

Check the 135 racks. The UA31 could most likely replace an UA11.

EDIT 2:
The S5 components are near bullet proof, but the power modules can let the smoke out after many years on duty.

as you said upgrading is no option as too expensive, but please have a look at codesys, they can read the S5 programs and convert to modern day plc systems.
it will need some work as old programs tend to have a lot of **** in them.
