I'm having problem connecting to the 501 plc with 1747-uic adaptor windows xp sp3 recognises the adaptor but rslinx cannot locate the plc. I tried using the pic box but I kept getting errors any suggestions.

thanks in advance

The most common issues with your UIC are the comm port that the USB adapter takes. Make sure RSLinx is configured for this port. Also the device type configuration in RsLinx ( see picture below)

Baud rates must be the same and node addresses must be different.

What cable are you using between the UIC and the SLC?

I'm using a regular (straight) ethernet cable. but I'm thinkink of reinstaling rslinx and the driver for the uic. I connected to a 501 before about a year ago with no problems, my windows crashed on me and i installed windows xp pro but never tried to connect through the uic. I have the driver diskette and the manual I've used the uic before It just frustrates me when it dosn't work.

What version of RSLinx do you have?

Newer versions have a driver for the UIC so the picture I have shown will be different.

Wrong cable. Should be 1747-C13. See PDF below. Pay special attention to pin 3 24vdc.
Hopefully you have not damaged the UIC.

501 slc communications

You need to check your configuration. If your using a 1747 pic you need to make sure that your configured and running that driver for the pic. You may need to stop your driver and restart. You might have to do an "Auto Config" after you make sure you have the right driver configured.

I'll check the cable, but i've used this cable 100s of times and connected to 502, 503, 504

it does not give me the option for auto config ithink i was using rslinx classic in service mode and it didn't let me choose the pic driver .I had to change it to full mode to allow me to select the driver but it didn't have the auto config option i chose the 1747pic/aic+ driver driver.

I know that i've used it before. you do not press auto config it will not work. I have the manual too I just don't know why it didn't work for me, I will reinstall the driver again and try it again it's simple.
