1747-UIC not connecting

Hi,
im a bit of a newby here so be easy. i have an "allen bradley 1747-uic" connected to my pc and the slc 5/03 with the serial cable.i have been through the whole install the drivers and fnd the com port and used rslinx to configure the driver. when i go into rslogix 500 and try to go online it comes up with this error "Diagnosticstatus failed: 0x4." and now my slc 5/03 is giving me a flashing "flt" light. i followed the recomended steps. can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong. help!!!

The lights on the 1747-uic (usb, ok, dh485) dont change, i have the ok light at a steady green and nothing else while all of this is going on. if that helps

There is a switch on the top of the uic, is it in the rs232 position? Is your cable a cross-over cable? Is the driver on your plc program set to the uic driver? That's about all I can help with.

If the port is not set up for rs 485 try cable 1747-cp3
also make suer your UIC driver is proper,y installed and check what comport it is configured to (look in control panel) though it sounds like the port is not configured to RS 485 (no change on the RS 485 link lights)
