A Forum member asked a good DH-485 connectivity question in a Private Message and I'm posting the solution to the general forum so I can use an Attachment to show a hand-drawn sketch.
The MicroLogix 1100 and 1400 controllers have a built-in RS-485 port on Pins 1 and 8 of their Mini-DIN8 connector on the Channel 0 serial port. It can be used for DF1 Half Duplex, Modbus, ASCII or DH-485 applications.
These pins were used for 24V DC accessory power on the MicroLogix 1000/1200/1500 so NEVER connect a cable using these pins to one of those controllers expecting RS-485.
The 1763-NC01 cable provides a screw-terminal connection for this port. You can connect these terminals to the Trunk connector of a 1761-NET-AIC for DH-485 networking. Terminals A, B, COM and Shield should be used; consult the 1761-NET-AIC documentation to decide on cable type and termination.
This cable connection allows us to connect two RS-232 only PanelView 300 Micro terminals to a single 1761-NET-AIC and to the MicroLogix 1400 controller's Channel 0 serial port.
The cables for this purpose can be confusing but the cable end types, cable lengths, and part numbers are very well described in the PanelView 300 Micro Installation Instructions, RA Publication 2711-IN008.
