Another Allan-Bradley Newbie

I would change your habits with Siemens too, your electrician will thank you.

If its just a couple, I use ladder because I can edit online.

If its a lot of initializing, then ST but remember it can't be edited online.

Oh oh there is another thing I don't like to hear. So I can only edit Ladder online?

Keep an open mind, there are advantages to both systems. RA does things better than Siemens and Siemens does things better than RA. I used to shutter when I had to program the occasional Siemens system but I've learned to program in both and play to their strengths when I can.

Yeah totally agree. I've never been a fan boy of a PLC. Each one has different strengths. The best PLC is the one you are familiar with.

For now I hate AB because I have to change so many habits of mine :)

After few months I'll be OK hopefully then we'll see which PLC I'll hate.

For me, the best PLC is the one best suited for the task and requires the minimum amount of development and debug time. So I can get on to the next job because time is money.

You've had me here thinking about it. Most of the programs that I have written or seen have had conditions for the unlatch that would keep anything from moving on power up.

If I were approaching a motion control problem or a similar problem that involved life, limb, or property I would start with the first pass bit. I might set the output words to zero. I might even go to the extent of using MCRs. Using the MCRs you can shut off sections of program.

Good luck
