HMI Connection Over Modbus Allen Bradley

Hi There,

I have an application in mind using an existing Allen Bradley Micro 830. this PLC does not have on board Ethernet communications and i need to add an HMI to this Panel. I am using the new panelview 800 2711R-T4T and using the Serial ports to communicate over modbus. i will need the screen to work as an input to the plc entering two values of both length and quantity. can this be done over modbus comms with the PLC working as the master? has anyone done something similar or have any examples? Thanks in advance.

I think with those models you could go with DF1 if it's just a point to point connection.

I have found a setup with the HMI as the master and the Micro as the slave but it looks like it could be reversed as the micro supports modus master, the specs on the hmi were a little vague state only Modbus rtu so I am assuming it can act as a slave. but from what I am reading it looks like it can only run as a master.
