PanelView 550 Connections (PC, PLC)

Hello All,

I was wondering what cables and potential connection senarios that are possible with a PanelView 550. I enjoy working with PLC as a hobby and I'd like to start using a PanelView as they are most common in industry. At work our equipment only has DTAM and Micro300 as interfaces.

I have the following hardware:

SLC 500 5/03 with 485 and RS232 connections

PanelView 550-2711-B5A8 - I believe it has a DFI and a RS232 printer port
PanelBuilder32

1747-PIC interface

Micrologix 1000

1761 Micrologix to PC cable

1747-AIC interface

Just looking for simple ideas to get started, my panelview doesn't come with cables and haven't been able to make sence of the AB online manuals.

Actually, 2711-B5A8 has DH+ communications and an RS-232 printer port. You can do upload/download thru the printer port as long as printing is disabled, but you won't be able to connect it to the 5/03 or the MicroLogix. You would need a 5/04, any PLC-5 CPU, or a ControLogix with a DH/RIO module. If you had a 2711-B5A2, or A3 you could go straight into CH. 1 of the 5/03. If you had a 2711-B5A5 or A9 you could connect to either the MicroLogix or 5/03 CH. 0 as long as these ports were configured for DH-485. But if you have a B5A8, you are out of luck with the hardware you listed.

Thanks for the input. I know now that the Panelview 550 is going to be 2711-B5A2.
I should be getting it mid next week. I just wanted to make sure I order the correct cables to interface the PV to the 5/03 and to the pc to download a panelbuilder program.

As mentioned in the first post the hardware I currently have is the same execpt for the PV it is now a 550 2711-B5A2.

I found the PDF files usefull and saved them as refferance, but for a rookie to PanelViews it is a little confusing.

Can you hook a 5/03 processor up to a 2711-B5A2 PV and to a PC at the same time or is it not practical to do so? I keep my PLC connected 99% of the time to the PC as I only use it for simulation to test new ideas and to progress into things like analod and digital I/O's. Now that I'm comforable with the analog (scaling), I've decided to move onto PV and ditch my thumble wheel switches.

Again thanks for your suupport and ideas.

One other question and this another rookie clarification one, is the 2711-B5A2 model a keypad and a touch screen or is it just a keypad?

See picture below for ML1200 to PV connection. The ML1200's port will have to be configured for DH485 protocol.

Also see PDF below for PC to PV connection.
I would recommend you purchase a 1747-UIC for this PC to PV connection.
Or use a memory card for your PV program.( probably the easiest way to do it)
