I have a 6 x 7 x 3 inches junction box where a bad system integrator surge suppressor is in. Need to replace with a new one. I wondering what suppressor is good for field devices? What the preferred choice for protection?

I have never found the need for any form of surge suppressor on 4 to 20 mA loops. What does it do and why?

I have seen plenty of intrisic safety barriers.
