Hi guys,

I have a system with several s7-1200 PLCs with identical program.

I want to connect the s7-1200 PLCs to one s7-1500 via profinet, which means, I need to configure the s7-1200 as I-device. the s7-1200 will be the IO-device and the s7-1500, the IO-Controller.

Now, what I want to know is, if do I need to generate individual GSD files for each s7-1200 or I can use one GSD file for all s7-1200?

Thanks and Regards.

You can use the same GSD file for all the S7-1200.

edit: WHen you add the GSD file for each S7-1200 to the S7-1500 you have to assign a unique device name, and it must match the one you actually assign to the actual S7-1200 PLCs.

I wouldn't do it that way
Just integrate 1200 and 1500 in the same project. Make the 1200 an I device with a check box. Then assign I and Q data. Done

Hi JRW,

Thanks for the reply. Actually, the S7-1200 is a different contractor so I cannot integrate it in my TIA project. We requested a GSD file from them. Now I want to make sure what are the configurations that I need to consider to be able to communicate with them.

@JesperMP: OK. I will check on the device name. Hopefully they assign a different device name for each 1200 PLCs.
