In a jam with a 505 that went into default. Now I cant use ethernet.
I dont have a null modem cable and Im cutting apart some cables to make one.
Whats the minimum pins used. I cut apart a 1761 PM02 cable and they are only using 1-2-3-5-7-8
I cut apart a 1761-CBL-AP00 and it only uses 1-2-3-5-7-8

any help

Also, if that is a standard DB9 RS-232, then null modem would run

1-1 CD
2-3 Rx
3-2 Tx
5-5 GD
7-8 RTS
8-7 CTS

But assuming it is a standard DB9 RS-232 is a pretty big ask, so be careful.

Thanks for the help, I tried a 3 pin 2-3-5 with
2 to 3
3 to 2
5 to 5
But didn't see it in Linx
I did the example drbitboy suggested by splicing a
1761-CBL-PM02 & 1761-CBL-AP00
and was sucsesfull.
I will have to read up on the BootP though

Little late to the party but.... next time just use ControlFlash, its a lot easier than Bootp

The first thing that happens is a IP address is assigned to the controller, after that if you dont want to go through the flashing process just stop, your controller will have an address and you can download the program again

These are also nice little tool to have in your bag https://www.plccable.com/allen-brad...dress-explorer-dhcp-and-bootp-server-sim-ipe/

I made the corrections on program and downloaded to default Processor and was fine.
It ran about 14 hours and then went into Default again. I came in this morning and loaded program again with RS232. I'm thinking
Power Supply / Backplane or Processor.
Any thoughts

They have what looks to be a P2 Power supply in a 13 slot rack that is full.
Looking to see what different power supplies are ratted.
Which one is the biggest?

Although they are not using any DC I/O all
1746- IA16 & 1746-OA16
a couple of OW-16 & a SN card

If you go into RSLogix 500, in the I/O Configuration and hit the 'PowerSupply' button it will give you estimated power load values based on the modules you have configured and let you see how much margin each power supply would have.

P2 shows it is only using less than half So I will get a new P2 and see if that was my problem. Thanks
