A Free HMI with Eye Catching Graphics is Now Available

Archie, Hello
I'm working on converting my project over to version 3.5.6. Right now I'm working on the basics. I'm pretty much doing it from scratch using my old stuff as examples to go from.
I'm having a problem with the basic label displaying data values from my PLC.(AB Micrologix 1100) I can get the data from N9:0 but when I try N14:0 it displays the value that is in the properties box for PLCAddressValue. If i leave it blank then it displays nothing. If I change the address of the working one to N14:0 it doesn't work but if I change it back to N9:0 it works again.
I tried this out with version 3.5.8 and could not replicate it. I used a single BasicLabel with PLCAddressValue set to N9:0, then changed it to N14:0 and it worked correctly. I then put 2 BasicLabels, one for each address, and that worked correctly also.

This may be a dumb question, but do you definitely have a N14:0 data table? Do you get any message in the BasicLabel when it does not work?

The only dumb question is an unasked question..
I was running both versions of my application on the same machine and the older version worked as expected. I tried a blank program with a single basic label and n14:0 worked. I had done some copy and paste and think that doing that may have caused some trouble. I'm going to do it all by hand and see what happens.

Meter Pack Version 3.5

There is an updated version for version 3.5. If you reply to the email you received when you purchased the meter pack or private message Archie your email, he will send you the update.

Actually i changed my mind. I love what Archie has done so I just purchased the new versions of all of the packs. After all it only cost me $8.00. In my opinion that's a small price to pay to encourage Archie to keep up the good work.

Ok Archie I've got a question. Is there a way to changed the CommComponent on all controls at run time?
What I'm wanting to do is set it up so that at run time I can easily switch from a DF1 set up for an emulator to a EthernetIPforPLCMICRO and back.
Thanks

There are a few ways to do, but the simplest is the brute force method.

1) Add a Button (Not a BasicButton) to the form
2) Double click the button to get back to the code
3) Add this code for every control:

BasicLabel1.CommComponent=EthernetIPforPlcSlcMicroCom1
.
.

Then do the same with another button, but with this code:

BasicLabel1.CommComponent=DF1Comm1
.
.

If you wanted to get a little more advanced, you can use reflection like below. However neither method will work because changing the CommComponent after communication has started, does not trigger the controls to unsubscribe and re-subscribe to the new driver. You would have to modify the CommComponent property of each control to unsubscribe, then resubscribe.

Code:
[FONT=Consolas][SIZE=2][COLOR=#0000ff][FONT=Consolas][SIZE=2][COLOR=#0000ff][FONT=Consolas][SIZE=2][COLOR=#0000ff]For[/COLOR][/SIZE][/FONT][/COLOR][/SIZE][/FONT][/COLOR][/SIZE][/FONT][FONT=Consolas][SIZE=2][FONT=Consolas][SIZE=2] i = 0 [/SIZE][/FONT][/SIZE][/FONT][FONT=Consolas][SIZE=2][COLOR=#0000ff][FONT=Consolas][SIZE=2][COLOR=#0000ff][FONT=Consolas][SIZE=2][COLOR=#0000ff]To [/COLOR][/SIZE][/FONT][/COLOR][/SIZE][/FONT][/COLOR][/SIZE][/FONT][FONT=Consolas][SIZE=2][COLOR=#0000ff][FONT=Consolas][SIZE=2][COLOR=#0000ff][FONT=Consolas][SIZE=2][COLOR=#0000ff]Me[/COLOR][/SIZE][/FONT][/COLOR][/SIZE][/FONT][/COLOR][/SIZE][/FONT][FONT=Consolas][SIZE=2][FONT=Consolas][SIZE=2].Controls.Count - 1[/SIZE][/FONT]

This is how you would modify the CommComponent property of every control:

In the latest release i see that there is a SimulatorCom driver. I was wondering if I could get some info on this if possible.
Thanks
The simulator driver was made to demonstrate the HMI without a PLC. The only thing it does is allow you to put in tag names in the control properties and if you write back to the tag, the value will show up in other controls that use the same tag name.

For example, if you add a BasicLabel, set PLCAddressKeypad to "abcd", then add a gauge with the PLCAddressValue set to "abcd", if you click the label and put in a value, then gauge will display that value.

Hopefully, this is a simple enough to solve.

I was testing the software and could not find a way to send a string or DINT value to a Controllogix PLC connected via ethernetIP.

Say, I want to write "Hello" to a tag called "Test_String" ; or write "500" to a tag called "Test_Number", when a bit turns on.

I was able to set up communication and read values and display them in a meter control, but how do you write something ?

Thanks.

Add a button to your form and double click it to get to the code view. Add:

Code:
EthernetIPforCLXCom1.Write("Test_String", "Hello")
That assumes that the tag "Test_String" is controller scoped.

edit: doing it based on something changing in the PLC will take a little more work. I'll figure something out and post it (unless someone beats me to it).
