Getting 5/04 corrupted processor error

Hi, we are using 5/04 processor and when we are going online it is showing the processor is communicated in RS Linx. When i select the processor and trying to go online or upload or download the program, it is showing as corrupted processor or processor failed error. Am using serial port for the communication.

I tried with 5/03 processor and it is working fine.

What would be the possible causes.

Most likely is that your 5/04 processor is firmware 10 or better and you are trying to connect to it with older RSLogix 500 software.

Ok, I have a bit more time now...

For those without TechConnect (Mickey, I have you to blame for all this "extra" work!)...

RSLogix 500 v7.10 introduced support for the selection of "FRN 10 and later" SLC processors under "Processor Type".

Versions of RSLogix 500, prior to v7.10, cannot go online or upload/download to FRN 10 or later processors, if they contain a program that was configured for an "...FRN 10 and later" Processor Type.

So what can you do?...

1) The simplest thing to do is to upgrade RSLogix 500 to v7.10 or newer.

Or...

2) You could access the controller with a compatible version of RSLogix 500 (from another source) and edit the Processor Type from "...FRN 10 and later" to "...FRN 3-8". Even though this is not the correct selection for this processor, the program will download. This will then allow pre v7.10 software to interact with FRN 10 or later processors.

So will it be door number 1 or 2?
