slow laptop to slc5/05 programming

Programming and saving a program while online is very slow, up to 20 minutes to save a program while online. I'm using a compaq nc8430, xp pro with SP2. RS Linx classic V 7.20, RSLogix 500 V 7.20. Laptop is connected to an ethernet switch. This switch is connected to a SLC 5/05 and 8 Bardac drives using Prosoft. There are also 2 Panelviews that I can download updates to without any issues. I'm using the same program file and cable that a technician used for the initial installation of this system, the only difference is the laptops. What am I mssing?

Does an upload run faster if the controller is in Program mode ?

If so, then you're simply overloading the controller's Ethernet port with traffic. Maybe the drives have something to do with it; I don't know if you're sending MSG instructions to them from the SLC or what the Prosoft module you refer to does.

There's a Status bit for the Ethernet port that selects whether one communications request or all communications requests are serviced per housekeeping scan. I don't have Logix 500 handy right now...

No I havn't tried uploading in program mode, just online.

The Prosoft module allows communication between the bardac drives through the Prosoft module through the backplane to the processor. I don't think it uses the e-port on the processor.

The installing technician didn't have this problem connecting the same way I am. I don't have any issues when I connect to the internet.
