Hello All. I have this new Panelview Plus 700 with the software. I have bad tag addresses from the old one to the Logix 5000. i'm using Factory Talk ME like the instructions says, to transfer/download the .mer file to the Panelview from th laptop. I can not connect to the 700. I have the usual Ethernet cord hooked up between the laptop and the Panelview. I am in the transfer utility program using RSlinx Enterprise. I made the address for the Panelview 10.10.6.2. my host computer address is 10.10.10.100. i see Panelview 700 at 10.10.6.2 address on the RS Linx Enterprise on the laptop. once i hit download it hangs up for about a minute and then gives me an error the says " the destination selected is not a valid device". That's as much as i can tell you guys right now. can anybody help me out. thanks! By the way the shops laptop is already, and has long been set up for all the plant devices so chances are that i shouldn't have to change anything in the network configs for it. please reply. thanks a million!

Your laptop Network Adapter's IP Address first three numbers should be identical to the terminal's ones if you are making a direct connection between the laptop and the HMI!(an USB to Ethernet adapter would come in handy if you do not want to reconfigure the machine's native Network Connections).
However, if the HMI entered communications configuration is correct (No DHCP and no BOOTP!), just install the terminal where it belongs and download the .mer over the LAN.

Did you set the network settings in the Panelview Plus itself? Unless you used BootP or DHCP, you need to go to the terminal and enter the IP address there under terminal settings.

^. Also After you do this, power must be cycled on the unit.

Also, since you are using 10.10.6.x and 10.10.10.x address, it will not work if you use subnet mask 255.255.255.0.

Have you tried opening the command prompt on your PC and pinging the IP address of the panelview? At least then you will know if your connection between the two is good.

You need to go down another level based on what you have selected in the screen shot. You need to select the Panelview device not the communication adapter that you currently have selected.

the address that i put in the PV is 10.10.10.4
subnet is at 0.0.0.0 in which i did not set
DHCP set to "NO"
Gateway 0.0.0.0

OK i went to run/cmd and pinged 10.10.10.4 and all 4 received and none lost so now i'm getting somewhere.....what now?

You should set the subnet on your panelview to 255.0.0.0.
When using a Subnet of 255.0.0.0, only the first octet of the IP address has to match (example 10.x.x.x) so you should be fine there.

Did you try what Kick-It-Up said? Because according to the screenshot you posted, you are trying to download to the wrong device in Linx.

Edit:
Also, if you are in a pinch to get the Panelview up and running, you can transfer program to the Panelview using a USB stick drive.

I GOT IT! The only thing is that I never changed my subnet in the PV, it stayed at 0.0.0.0 and i was still able to log on and download the .mer file. Can you explain to me why was I was still able to log on, not changing the subnet? What does subnet mean in a "Networking" for the dumbest dummy terms?

yes I did....he was exactly right...

i will certainly remember that. I rather get the hard way down packed first, its more exciting....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subnetwork explains subnets in detail.

Mainly, the subnet part decides how many different IP addresses can communicate on a network. My understanding is more functional than theoretical, so other users will probably be able to explain it better and simpler than I can. However I'll give it a shot.

Basically, the subnet is a group of binary numbers that get AND'd (or bit-wise masked) with the ip address in question. The subnet mask basically dictates how many of the bits in the network address must match in order to communicate.

Remembering that 255 is all 1's in binary, the subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 means that every number in the first 3 octets must match on a network. So if your network was 192.168.1.xxx, xxx could be anywhere from 0 - 254, so your network is limited to 255 total devices.

If your netmask is 255.0.0.0, only the first octet must match, therefore 10.xxx.yyy.zzz is available, where, once again, xxx, yyy, and zzz is 0 - 254 totaling 16,777,216 devices.

Hope those examples kindof help, maybe other users can make it a little clearer.
