When all else fails, the MAC address is available, and sometimes is used to configure the IP of a card. You don't want them changed on a process system; it's like the Golden Rule of the secret internet society. Most people don't even know about MAC, let alone try to change it.
If you're using a BOOTP configuration, change the IP in the BOOTP server for the proper MAC address, NOT at the module (which you can't!).
